The Mayor : Gérard Castet, born in 1949, Mayor of Beaumarchès since 1983-General Manager of services
According to Salvador Dali, the centre of the world was located at the Perpignan train station. Beaumarchès does not make this claim, however this former Bastide village, with its particularly rich history, still exerts a certain degree of attraction – you could even say it is magnetic. Where other rural communities are in decline due to decreasing populations, Beaumarchès remains a dynamic, growing, culturally-rich village.
Situated on a headland, dominating the horizon and facing the Pyrenees, families from all parts of France, as well as continental and island Europe, rub shoulders here. The energetic population here not only enjoys the beautiful views but as well the harmonious lifestyle present in Beaumarchès.
The numerous cultural and sportive associations produce quite extraordinary spectacles. The ‘Light and Sound' performance, theatre plays & concerts, 7 annual festive events (seasonal meals and an antique market), football, tennis, gym and walks take place and represent just a few of the popular facets that knit the community together. The school, the sports centre, prepare children for active life; the seniors club, where centenarians consistently blossom, provide proof that one lives well here.
Without ado, media ballyhoo or argument, a small-scale model of Europe is being established in Beaumarchès: discover the art of living together!

We have decided in Beaumarchès to welcome new people and especially Solos, that is why we created a Welcome Committee dedicated to this mission.
We put in place several actions to deal with land-use control because we consider that feeling comfortable at home is the key to success in business.
Thus, we created the urban village plan which enables us to organize within the village, the different activities necessary to its expansion and to the well being of its citizens.
In order to enable French and foreigner visitors, who fell under the spell of Beaumarchès, to live in the village, the municipal council has decided to help them by:
-doing the revision of the urban village plan in 2007 to offer building land,
-creating next to the village centre in late 2007 or early 2008, a housing estate of 5 to 10 lots (of about 1000 square metres each) with a panoramic view of the Pyrenees and the valley of Arros.
-exempting firms or craftsmen from the professional tax during their first two years in the village.
-putting in place in the village in 2007, services for people with disabilities (Home Help in a Rural Area),
-fitting out better premises by the end of 2007, for children of « Les Farfalous » the community centre, recently created.
-making easier the setting up of a food industry pole in the former slaughterhouse.
-taking part in the creation of Help Centre through Employment in collaboration with the Medical-Education Institute of Pagès in order to offer firms and privates the following services: grapevine work, hotel business and catering, dry cleaners.

Beaumarchès, ancient fortified town, was founded in 1288 according to a feudal treaty proposed to Philippe le Bel by Eustache de Beaumarchais, Seneschal of Toulouse, who gave his name to the village. Its construction started at the beginning of the 14th century. The strong place has often been damaged, however some vestiges bear witness to its rich history: the gothic Church of Notre-Dame, built from the 14th century and completed until the 16th century is a historical jewel which dominates the valley of Arros and is located in front of the Pyrenees Mountains. Beaumarchès welcomed important people such as Louis de Fourcauld (1851-1914), a journalist, art critic and professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts who started the construction of the Château de Pagès (which is nowadays, the medical-educational institute for children and teenagers in trouble), Francis Lagardère (1922 -1943), a Resistance hero during the Second World War and Julien Samson (1881-1943), a poet and author of plays, who emulated Roumanille and Mistral.
