Cazaubon is atypical since it is composed of a village and a very ancient and famous thermal village which is recognized at a national level. The work of the village council is focused on these two entities which exist in perfect harmony. Businesses and (administrative, commercial, educational and cultural) infrastructures are established in Cazaubon while Barbotan ranks among the most modern and reputable health resort in France.

"We wish you the welcome in CAZAUBON – BARBOTAN-les-Thermes. Come and discover our beautiful village and its historical centre from the 12 century, the health resort, the lake, local gastronomy, outdoor activities and many other leisures you will enjoy on the spot."
In order to welcome new comers, we focused our strategy on the following points:
-Feasibility study of a Housing renovation project (PRI) or a General Interest Project(PIG:)
-Construction of a new housing estate
-Construction of a new building for the police force
-Construction of a nursing home for dependent elderly people
-Construction of a new library/multimedia library in the economic and cultural activities centre.
•Economic development of the village:
-Moving of the casino from Cazaubon to Barbotan-les-Thermes (near the Municipal Tourism Office)
-Heating of the swimming-pool of the leisure base
-Creation of a telecottage in the economic and cultural activities centre
-Project of a boarding-school in the secondary school.

The origins of Cazaubon date back from remote antiquity and was named after "Caza", floor of the house or habitation and "boes" which means woods.
The form, the symbolism and the geometry of Cazaubon led to suppose that the village would have been founded on a former roman camp; The christian city was created on the square. The birth of "old Cazaubon" probably took place in the 5th century when the Aquitains were establishing in the heights to be protected against the Barbarians. In the 11th century, fortifications (pierced by four gates) were set up. Numerous vestiges bear witness to our prestigious past: the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Cutxan and its octogonal bell tower, turned into a cultural place and which was, during the Revolution, the assembly room of the Jacobin Club; the Church of Cazaubon, rebuilt in the 19th century, the Romanesque style Church of Saint-Pierre de Barbotan, reconstructed in the 16th and 17th centuries, etc.
Only two gates out of the four still exist; one called Uzan or Juzan (which means 'down')in the south, dominates a beautiful landscape towards the road of Estang, the other one, called Hourrat (which means 'hole' in the old Gascon language) in the west.
The word "Barbotan" guarantees the antique origin of the health resort since it represents the muddy place where water bubbles.
In the year 56 before Christ, under Julius Caesar' orders, Licinius Crassus, a young lieutenant, attacked and conquered the peoples of South West of Aquitaine in their ‘oppidum' of Sos despite a heroic resistance.
While Crassus was going towards the South, he made a stopover in Barbotan where he established a camp in "la Garière" near the chalet. He took advantage of water and warm mud for his soldiers' health. During the Roman peace (Pax Romana) which lasted three centuries, Barbotan became the thermal village (vicus aquensis) of the Pays des Elusates.
About 1580, Michel de Montaigne was one of the earliest famous tourist and spoke highly of natural warm water springs of Cazaubon comparing them with Bade, Battaglia, Corsena water springs.
On this listed site, a huge touristic complex which spreads over 72 hectares with numerous sports facilities on the lake of Uby (80 hectares): beach, swimming-pool, rowing, sailing (national competitions), canoe kayak, tennis, fishing, camping, etc.
