Mayor's speech

Born in Lectoure, I am a general medical practitioner and a hospital practitioner too. I have been the mayor of Lectoure since the year 2000. As a Thermal bath town, Lectoure provides a lot of services in different fields : education, culture, sports, health, but first of all, Lectoure is famous for its exceptional patrimony : once an important military town in Gallo-Roman times, Lectoure was a strongly fortified town what makes the town unique in the South West of France or even in France! You are welcomed in Lectoure to settle and work especially thanks to its high speed Internet connection. Do not hesitate to come and appreciate the warmth and solidarity of Lectoure inhabitants, our way of life, our delicious local products and the numerous events of our city. I'm looking forward to welcoming you in our beautiful city.
Gérad Duclos, Mayor of Lectoure.

Originally a Gallo-Roman settlement, and also stretching down to the plain, Lectoure was fortified at the time of the Barbarian's invasions, by building walls around the town. Successive efforts have enabled to preserve these walls till today.
The residence of the Viscounts of Lomagne, in the Middle Ages, the city later became the capital of the County. The Lord Géraud of Monlézun, the Bishop of Lectoure in the XIIIth century, had the cathedral built, and greeted Edward Ist, the King of England. The witness of French History, the town greeted a great many famous people within its walls, including Richelieu and Ann of Austria in 1632, and, King Louis XIVth and the Queen in 1659.
Lectoure was the birthplace of illustrious civil servants and men of state such as Marshal Lannes, General Banel, etc… Lectoure offers a permanent honour to them in the magnificent “Room of the Illustrious”.
Lectoure preserves its history in several museums (archaeological museum, museum of Sacred Art, Marshal Lannes Memorial museum, etc…). It also provides all the infrastructures needed to make everybody's daily life easier.
Administrative services are available for all formal procedures, and a lot of sports and cultural associations will enable you to take part in the life of the city where it is easy to find a place in the community.
The Tourist office has a complete list of all addresses and contacts at your disposal to make your stay permanent settlement easier.
To look after your health, there is always a team of general practitioners or specialists doctors available so that you can live at Lectoure with your mind at rest.
In addition, the spa will welcome you with modern equipments and facilities and a team of devoted professionals will accompany you from a cure of hydrotherapy to the pleasure of bathing or fitness exercises.
Throughout the year, varied events bring people closer to one another: villages' fêtes, meals in the streets, antique exhibitions, markets, fairs, sports events, as well as cultural events.
