MIRANDE:
Mirande is a fortified town founded in the 13th century by the Abbot Berdoues and the Count Bernard IV of Astarac. It was making as a draughtboard, composed of 49 sectors of 50 metres each side.
What can you visit in Mirande:
- The Astarac place in the centre of the fortified town
- Fortification relics of the 13th century. There still are 500 metres battlements of the 1560 metres.
- Half timbering houses of the 16th century.
- The Marie Saint Church: it was founded at the beginning of the 15th century, 128 years after the foundation of the fortified town.
- The Rohan Tower of the 14th century was the residency of the Counts of Astarac. They also owned a castle.
- The sub prefecture and the Town hall of Mirande: two buildings of the Second French Empire
- The Fine Arts Museum. Since 1983, the Museum is implemented near the Church. There are lots of important collections from Gers: foreign and French painters of the 15th and the 19th century.
BASSOUES:
There is in Bassoues, a 43-metre donjon of the 14th century, which is a military architecture. You can also visit in this village: the market place of the 13th century, the church and the Saint Fris basilica.
MIELAN:
Mielan is a fortified town founded in the Middle Ages in 1284. Its vestiges disappeared during the French Revolution. The two main monuments were built during the 19th century: the Town Hall, built in 1845, at the same place of the ancient market place; and the Saint Barthelemy church.
We can also admire in Mielan the old and beautiful half timbering houses.
