"Why settling in Monguilhem? Just because we live in a village which is open to others, is kindly and shows solidarity."
For the coming years, we want to maintain shops and existing services (the community school, the post office, etc.) in order to be attractive for new comers, especially the Sohos.
In order to welcome you, we developped a 5 hectares land reserve, we have new housings or houses to renovate, to buy or to rent.
We are planning the creation of a private housing estate with lots between 1500 to 3000 m², the renovation of the village ballroom and the extension of the sewage network.

The origins of Monguilhem date back to 1319. The Lords Annet de Toujouse (a knight) and Guilhem de Montaigut (a seneschal) and Edward II, King of England and Duke of Aquitaine signed a feudal treaty which contributed to the construction of a 'bastide' (fortified town) on the left bank of the Midour. Thus, historically, Monguilhem is not part and parcel of the 'Armagnac' region but of the Marsan region and it used to belong to England for a period during the Middle-Age.
Like most of the 'bastides' from that time, the streets of the village form a right angle at their point of intersection; they are organised around the plane-tree shaded village green which is loved and cherished by all. This is the place where all the activities of Monguilhem are performed : the flowers market, the flea market, the 'course landaise', etc.
The construction of the Church dates back to 1471, the market was destroyed in 1909.
In the seventies, 'l'Essor' (a vocational rehabilitation centre) opened in the 'Maison Tahon', a little classical-style castle from 1820 which welcomes and gives work to about 100 autonomous and stable mentally disabled people in order to enable a successful social integration.
The local economy depends on agriculture: the vines, the armagnac production, fruits (apples) and duck breeding for 'foie gras'.
If you decide to live in our village, you will enjoy the village celebrations durinf the summer, the flowers market, the flea market, the local sports: the pétanque or the French nine pin skittle game, etc.
